After a two season hiatus, the first day of play at the 2012 Seoul Main Event has come to a conclusion.
There were a total of 129 players who took part in the eight, 60-minute levels on Day 1a and of those it was Christopher Park who finished with the most chips. It never seemed like Park was playing a massive hand, instead he slowly built his stack with well-timed aggression and plenty of expert play.
There will be approximately 60 players who join Park on Day 2 this weekend, with Fakher Alizai (97,200), Barry O’Callaghan (94,200) and Michael Guzzardi (68,500) also in good shape.
One of the early stories to emerge out of Day 1a was the domination of 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event champion, Oliver Speidel. A quieter second half of the night will see Speidel return on Day 2 with a solid 74,400 in chips.
Some of the notable players who couldn’t quite manage the momentum they needed to survive the night included Terrence Chan, Jesse McKenzie, Grant Levy and Darren Judges.
One of the interesting aspects of the day was the food situation. It’s not often that the food at a poker tournament is talked about as much as the game itself, but APPT Seoul was an exception. Early on in the day the players realised there was no food available to purchase anywhere close enough to the tournament area. PokerStars and the tournament staff came to the rescue though as a host of complimentary sandwiches, burgers and pizza was provided. It was an absurd thing to witness, but at one time there were several pizza boxes being passed around the tables.
Aside from the food, the 129 players who have entered so far is proof that this side of the world deserves a championship poker tournament, with the record number of players for an APPT Seoul event set to be broken come tomorrow's Day 1b action.
The play on Day 1b is set to kick off at 12:15 pm local time tomorrow. Make sure to join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team as we again bring all the coverage from the APPT Seoul Main Event.
The players are now bagging and tagging their chips with play completed. Here are a few of the notable chip counts from the end of the day. Christopher Park looks to be the end-of-day chip leader and we'll have a complete recap posted shortly.

The tournament staff just announced that each table will finish the current hand they are on and then deal just one more hand. After that, the players will bag and tag for the night.
As we just noted, Christopher Park isn't sitting back and waiting for the end of the day. Just now, we witnessed another pot he picked up thanks to playing aggressive poker.
After a middle-position limp and a raise to 3,500 from the hijack seat, Park three-bet from the small blind to 8,200. Both the limper and the original raiser folded, allowing Park to chip up a bit more.

Jacky Wang has just managed to wake up with a hand late into the evening. It all started when a player opened it up from early position. Another player called behind and then it was on Wang on the button. Wang flicked out 7,900, which prompted the small blind player to move all in. The other two players got out of the way and Wang made a quick call.

When the board ran out , Wang had dodged an ace and looks like he will be going into Day 2 with a healthy stack.

It's the last level of the night and there's just about 15 minutes left to play. With 63 players remaining in the field spread across seven tables, things have quieted down a bit. As the players realize they are on the cusp of making it to Day 2, many have tightened up their play and are just biding their time before their bag up their chips
Christopher Park is not doing that, as he's leading the way with over 120,000 in chips. Park is playing aggressive and remains very active, which is more than likely why he's been able to amass such a large stack. Unless something drastic changes, it looks like Park will finish the day at the top of the board.
We recently saw Matt "mjw006" Wakeman exiting the tournament area. A quick check on twitter and we managed to dig up the details of his bust-out hand.
"Eh busto. JT<57 on T758 board for most of it, then the T8dd<AKo for my last 2.5bbs next hand. Sigh"

Another big chip stack has emerged late into day 1a. The player in question is Canada's Fakhur Alizai.
