Congratulations to Sunny Jung
Congratulations to Sunny Jung

It has taken a week's worth of poker, but the Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) HK$100,000 Main Event has concluded with Korea's Sunny Jung being crowned the champion!

Starting on Monday over two Day 1 flights, 203 players took to the felt for the second running of the ACOP Main Event that was won by China's Xing Zhou last year. With one of the biggest buy-ins of the region being complemented with an incredibly generous and slow structure, a stellar field of players from across the world made the trip, but that didn't slow down the speed of play as eliminations flew out the door over the first few days. The money-paying top 25 was reached by the end of Day 3, and once play resumed on Day 4, it would be just a matter of hours before the final table was reached.

That final table of nine would see the average stack sitting at an incredible 112 big blinds meaning that players, staff and media were in for a long day. Quick eliminations occurred as Chane Kampanatsanyakorn (9th) and Chenxiang Miao (8th) were first to go before PokerStars Team Online member Randy "nanonoko" Lew was unable to claim the second leg of the Macau triple crown as he fell in (7th). From then onwards though it would be an exhausting battle for the players as chips swirled back-and-forth with eliminations on the rarity as Jonathan Depa (6th), Yoshitaka Okawa (5th), Yat Wai Cheng (4th) and Yifan Zheng (3rd) all fell to the rail before the heads-up battle between Jung and Tang would last roughly 45 minutes before play was halted for the evening.

Returning today, Jung held just a slight lead over Tang but both players had stacks of 134 and 120-big blinds respectively. Action began with Jung wearing down and steam-rolling Tang as he pushed his edge out to a two-to-one advantage. Although Tang made a slight comeback, Jung launched to a three-to-one advantage when his {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} made a four-flush on a {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} board before furthering that lead to an eight-to-one advantage. Fortunately for Tang he started to fight back for what seemed like the first time today as he slowly clawed his way back into the heads-up battle. A mix of aggression and some hands helped Tang before he managed to take the lead when his {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} bested Jung's {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} on a {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades} in a four-bet pot.

The two then traded pots back-and-forth for the better part of 90 minutes before Jung put his foot down and began furthering the gap between the two to take a three-to-one lead before the final hand played out. With Tang beginning the hand with roughly 35 big blind, he raised to 100,000 (at 25,000/50,000 blinds) and Jung three-bet to 300,000. Tang made it 500,000 and Jung instantly moved all in with Tang making the call holding {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to be dominated by Jung's {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. With the first called all-in of heads up play upon us, the {4-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts} board would see Jung's dominance improve to a flush to be crowned the second ACOP Main Event Champion and recipient of HK$4,352,000 in prize money.

Devan Tang Eliminated in 2nd Place (HK$3,667,000); Sunny Jung Wins!

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Devan Tang - 2nd place
Devan Tang - 2nd place

Devan Tang opened the button with a min-raise to 100,000 only to have Sunny Jung three-bet to 300,000.

Tang contemplated his decision for nearly a minute before cutting out a four-bet min-raise to 500,000 as Jung instantly called for the all-in button which signaled a five-bet all-in for over 4.1 million.

Tang fell back in his chair, dropped his shoulders and then picked up some red 25,000-denomination chips and began to shuffle them before slamming them over the betting line and on the chips he already had committed to the pot to signify that he was all in for his 1,780,000 total.

Jung: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Tang: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

With Jung having the lead in both chips and hand strength, the {4-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop changed little apart from opening up backdoor outs for both players.

As the rail increased to roughly 35 people watching on for the result, the dealer delivered the {2-Hearts} on the turn to give Tang outs to a chop with a five but also see Jung gain outs to a flush.

With even more people now watching on, the dealer would slowly peel the {10-Hearts} on the river to give Jung a flush and send Tang to the rail in 2nd place for HK$3,667,000 while launching the Korean into ecstasy as he was now the ACOP Main Event Champion and recipient of the HK$4,352,000 first prize.

More Pots Go Jung's Way

After that big hand a few moments ago, Sunny Jung has ramped up his aggression and has now furthered his lead to nearly a three-to-one advantage.

Tang is looking visibly frustrated and will need to regain his composure if he wants to mount a comeback to eventually take the ACOP Main Event title.

Aggression Gets Sunny the Lead

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Sunny Jung raised to 100,000 and Devan Tang called as the dealer dropped a {8-Hearts}{K-Spades}{9-Spades} flop and Jung continued for 150,000.

Tang made the call before being faced with a 400,000-chip bet when the turn landed the {2-Clubs}. Tang would call once again as the river landed the {4-Diamonds} and Jung bet out 1.2 million.

Tang went into the tank for several minutes before eventually finding a fold to relinquish the chip lead back to Jung.

Set for Tang

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Devan Tang raised to 100,000 and Sunny Jung called as the {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop saw a continuation-bet of 100,000 from Tang.

Jung called, and when the {A-Spades} landed on the turn, he instantly called Tang's bet of 200,000. The river landed the {3-Spades} and Tang bet out 400,000 which Jung called once again.

Tang tabled his {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} as Jung mucked and Tang climbed to 3.3 million in chips.
