It's been another action-packed day here at the Crown Casino in Melbourne and after a 13-hour slog, 381 players have been reduced to just 32.
Though numbers were down from last year, it didn't take away from the spirit of the competition, dominated by a local field providing plenty of entertainment and for a lucky few, they may have hit the rail with little or no loss by taking out a bounty or two!
Congratulations to our first eight players past the post; each receive AUD $2,668 for their efforts:
33rd place: Maryann Farrugia
34th place: Rosmus Vogt
35th place: Chris Chronis
36th place: Michael Tureniec
37th place: Rainer Pfauder
38th place: Jarred Graham
39th place: Jeff Duvall
40th place: James Keys
The remaining 32 players have bagged and tagged and will return tomorrow at 2:00pm AEDST, where they will play a shootout format until two players remain on each table to form the final table.
Be sure to tune in early tomorrow morning for all the action here at PokerNews - for now, we're heading off to the bar. See you there!
The money was all in the middle preflop and we caught the action just as the cards were tabled between Aidan Kelly and Maryanne Farrugia:
Farrugia:
Kelly:
The flop of improved neither hand, but Kelly caught the on the turn to take the lead! Needing any eight, the river fell on the river, eliminating the last remaining female in the tournament.
And that means that's stumps! Time to wrap this puppy up.
Rasmus Vogt has fell just short of the shootout stage heading out in 34th position.
Vogt had got extremely short in chips hoping to hold out for a pay jump. It didn't happen Tristan Bain made the call with , which looked to match up well for Vogt's .
That was until Bain caught a runner-runner straight on the board.
Jonathan 'xMONSTERxDONGx' Karamalikis raised before the flop to 9,000 and the action folded around to Maryanne Farrugia who reraised all in. Karamalikis called.
Farrugia:
Karamalikis:
The board ran out and Farrugia doubled up to 90,000 in chips. Karamalikis probably wouldn't be too worried - he's still on 245,000 in chips.
Rainer Pfauder moved the last of his short stack into the middle from middle position and the action folded around to Stefan Huber who called from the cutoff.
Everybody else got out of the day and the cards were tabled:
Pfauder:
Huber:
The board was spread ; Pfauder was sent to the rail and Huber is now on 113,000.
