Day 1b Completed
Greg Geller has been a mainstay atop the chip counts on Day 1s as of late at the Golden Gates Casino and Poker Parlour in Black Hawk, Colorado, and he found himself in familiar territory finishing Day 1b of the August 2019 Colorado Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event as the chip leader with a total of 365,500.
Day 1b saw 90 entries added to the tally, with 18 players putting chips into bags at the end of the night. Geller was two of those entries, having been eliminated from the tournament on his first bullet after spending about four hours never getting much above starting stack. He got right back in on the action and was able to chip up slightly with his second bullet. However, he still never got much going until just before the final break of the night, when he finally eclipsed the 100,000-mark in chips.
The largest hand of Geller’s night came in the final level of play when he knocked out Mike Wheeler, who boasted a large stack throughout most of the day. Geller raised ace-jack with the ace of clubs and saw a jack-high flop with three clubs. He bet the flop and then shoved the turn, only to get instantly called by Wheeler’s jack-nine with no club. Geller unnecessarily improved to the nut flush on the river and suddenly found himself near the top of the leader board.
Second in chips for the day was WSOP bracelet winner Adrian Buckley, who finished the day with 293,000 in chips. Buckley also won a massive pot near the end of the day when his flopped set of fives held versus a flopped open-ended straight draw when stacks got in versus Andrew Dea. Dea also had one of the largest stacks of the day prior to that point, though he did still advance, finishing the day with 128,000 in chips.
Rounding out the top five in chips are Ben Keeline (210,500), Nate Zoller (192,000), and Matt Voorhees (187,000).
Other notable players to advance include Thomas Fuller (161,500), David Levi (87,500), and recent HPT Golden Gates champion Austin Peck (47,500).
The field was full of notable players and many of them found themselves eliminated prior to the end of play. Chris Tryba, Aaron Frei, Ryan Dodson, Danny Gonzales, and Nick Pupillo were among those to fall short of bagging and all who have yet to do so will have one last chance on Saturday’s Day 1c.
Cards will be in the air for Day 1c at noon local time. Come back to PokerNews to find out who advances on their last chance.
The official chip counts at the end of Day 1b are as follows. Stay tuned for a recap of the day's action.

The tournament director has indicated that four more hands will be played before chips will be bagged and tagged.
Nick Pupillo shoved blind from under the gun for his last 19,700. Action folded to Rich Dixon and he shoved over the top for just under 100,000. Don Angstead called off his last 71,200 from the button and the three turned up their hands.
Nick Pupillo:
Rich Dixon:
Don Angstead:
"Natural eight!" said Pupillo, though Dixon and Angstead were likely to be the ones competing for both pots.
The came in the window on a complete flop of , giving Angstead a flopped set and all but sealing the deal for him. The turn and river did just that and he knocked out Pupillo, leaving Dixon with just over ten big blinds along the way. Meanwhile, Angstead now finds himself with a comfortable stack nearing the end of the evening.

Mike Wheeler's seat had been recently vacated, as Tricia Coogan confirmed he had just been knocked out by Greg Geller. The two got stacks in and Geller ended up with the nut flush, good for the knockout.
Shortly after recounting the action, Geller folded from under the gun as a hand had just been dealt.
"Greg folded?" said Brian Leitch, who found action on himself. He then went all in for his last 20,000 or so. Coogan was on Leitch's left and reraised all in, clearing the way.
Brian Leitch:
Tricia Coogan:
"No ace, no king!" said Coogan. The dealer brought a runout of to comply with her wish. However, it gave Leitch Broadway and he earned the double at her expense.

Adrian Buckley opened from the hijack to 5,200 and received calls from Rich Dixon in the cutoff, Ben Keeline on the button, and Andrew Dea in the big blind.
Buckley joked about how he was called by at least four people each time he opened today as the dealer brought a flop of . Dea checked and Buckley made a continuation-bet of 12,000. Dixon and Keeline both called. Dea then announced he was all in.
Buckley quickly called and Dixon then went into the tank for close to two minutes before folding. Keeline then found action on himself and asked for a count, which was totaled to be 130,200. He thought for close to a minute as well before folding.
"Do you have sevens?" asked Buckley, showing
"No, just open-ended," responded Dea as he tabled
Buckley was able to fade the straight outs as the turn and river came to secure him the double and more.

Adam Shenkin saw action folded to him in the cutoff and shoved for his last 25,600. He received action from Austin Peck in the small blind and the two turned up their hands for the runout.
Austin Peck:
Adam Shenkin:
The board ran out to bring a six-high straight, however, Shenkin's sevens gave him one pip higher and earned him the double.

George Medina opened from the cutoff to 6,000 and received a call from Adam Shenkin, who defended his big blind. The flop came and both players checked.
Shenkin led out for 6,000 on the turn and Medina called. The river fell and Shenkin bet another 8,000. Medina thought for a bit and called.
Shenkin showed for a queen kicker to the pair of kings on board and Medina tabled for an ace kicker, good to take down the pot and leave Shenkin with just over ten big blinds.
