Kent Lundmark Wins EPT Barcelona (€825,000!)

Kent Lundmark - winner!
Kent Lundmark - winner!

Well that's it, the EPT Barcelona Main Event is over after Kent Lundmark destroyed the final table, eliminating five players on his way to victory.

Italy's Francesco Notaro was the first player to head to the cashier's desk when his {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} lost to Jesus Cortes Lizano's {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}. He was followed soon after by Georgios Skotadis, when the Greek's pocket tens could not suck out on the pocket jacks of Thor Stang.

Two more hours passed before the table lost another player, in fact it lost three players in less than half an hour! Lundmark was responsible for the demise of Stang, then Giuseppe Pantaleo and finally Shander de Vries.

Another two hours passed before three became the final two and once again it was Lundmark who took the player out. WSOP bracelet winner, Konstantin Puchkov slowplayed a pair of red kings preflop but it proved to be his undoing as he called an all-in bet from Lundmark on a {3-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop. The kings stayed ahead when the {10-Diamonds} showed up on the turn but the {k-Spades} on the river not only improved Puchkov to a set, but also Lundmark to a winning flush.

Going into the heads-up battle, Lundmark held a 12,405,000 to 10,550,000 chip lead over the Spaniard Lizano and he always looked in control, though it did take him 90 minutes win all of his chips. The final hand saw Lundmark raise to 320,000, Lizano re-raise to 880,000 and then call Lundmark's all-in bet! Lundmark held {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, Lizano {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}; the final board ran out {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Spades} and EPT Barcelona had a new champion.

Congratulations to everyone who cashed at EPT Barcelona, next stop Prague. See you there!

Jesus Cortes Lizano Eliminated in 2nd Place (€525,000)

Jesus Cortes Lizano - runner up
Jesus Cortes Lizano - runner up

Kent Lundmark opened for 320,000 on the button and Jesus Cortes Lizano re-popped for 880,000. This had happened before, and hadn't come to much. But this time Lundmark announced all in - and Lizano called all in for 5.875 million.

On their backs, gentlemen.

Lundmark: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Lizano: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Board: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Spades}

The vast crowd outside the TV table who have gathered in support of the local boy will have to settle for second - still the best result ever of a Spanish player in an EPT. But the top spot and the coveted EPT title will go to Lundmark.

Back & Forth

Kent Lundmark has hardly let up for a second - he flirted for a moment with the 17 million mark courtesy of another three-bet from the big blind to a 325,000 button raise from Lizano.

But the next hand, it was Lizano's turn to three-bet to Lundmark's button raise and he took the pot. Lizano is not going down without a serious fight.

Kent Lundmark Takes Charge

Kent Lundmark seems to have gone up a few more gears. It seems pretty standard to raise every button but Lundmark is forcing the PokerStars sponsored player Jesus Cortes Lizano to fold through continually well time three betting.

Lundmark Extends Lead

Kent Lundmark raised from the button and got a call from Jesus Cortes Lizano. But Lizano checked the {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop and then folded to a continuation bet from Lundmark, meaning that Lundmark picked up the million-chip pot, and Lizano moved another small step away from becoming the first ever Spanish EPT winner.

Lundmark Wins The BIggest Pot So Far

Kent Lundmark
Kent Lundmark

Just as I was about to post how this heads up encounter could go on for some time as neither player seemed willing to play for a large pot, the largest pot of the match so far took place!

Kent Lundmark made his standard raise preflop and was called by Jesus Cortes Lizano. The flop came down {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, Lizano checked, Lundmark bet 350,000 and Lizano called.

The {4-Clubs} on the turn looked like a blank to us but obviously not to the players as Lizano checked, Lundmark bet 825,000 only to see Lizano check-raise to 2,425,000! Lundmark sat completely still for around a minute and eventually called.

The river was the {k-Diamonds} and both players checked and turned over their hands.

Lizano: {9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for bottom pair and a busted flush draw

Lundmark: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for top pair and the win.

Lundmark now leads his opponent by 15,215,000 to 7,740,000 chips

Two Pairs Will do For Lundmark

After a series of three betting and folding Jesus Cortes Lizano managed to squeeze out a four bet and Kent Lundmark folded and Lizano took the chip lead. Then Lundmark snatched it back in this hand.

Lundman opened for 325,000 and Lizano called. The flop was {4-Hearts} {q-Diamonds} {q-Spades} and Lizano checked to Lundmark who bet 350,000 - Lizano made the call. They both checked the {10-Diamonds} turn before Lizano also checked the {5-Clubs} river. Lundmark counted out a bet and pushed it into the middle and it was for 950,000. Lizano didn't need a long time to make his decision and he called. Lundmark showing {10-} {9-} for two pair and Lizano mucked his hand.

Lizano Takes Down Another Pot

Jesus Cortes Lizano has just taken down a substantial pot, after raising with one of the worst hands in poker!

Lizano raised to 360,000 preflop and was called by his Swedish opponent. The flop came down {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{j-Spades}, Kent Lundmark checked then called Lizano's bet of 475,000. The Spaniard slowed down and checked the {8-Hearts} turn, Lundmark then checked behind. The river was the {a-Hearts} and again both players checked.

Lizano turned over {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, which was enough to win the pot as Lundmark quickly mucked.
