Day 5 Completed
The final table is set here in San Remo, Italy for the 2011 San Remo. Today was another short day on the schedule as the field of 24 players got down to eight in very little time.
At the end of the day, Australian Daniel Neilson led the way with 6.7 million in chips. He quietly chipped his way up throughout the day before ending the night by sending Johnny Lodden home in ninth place. Neilson has been on a nice little run here in Europe recently. A few weeks ago, he placed 45th in the EPT London Main Event for £13,000 and is now set to make a whole lot more cash as he eyes the €800,000 top prize here.
When the day began, Chris McClung had a ton of chips with 3.148 million. Instead of sitting here writing about how he ran over the field, all we can do is wonder where all his chips went. McClung's ultra-aggressive style had him with his foot on the gas all day. In fact, it seemed like he just never slowed down from Day 1. Today, that style seemed to get the best of him and allowed him to grant numerous double ups to his opponents. McClung went out in 14th place.
One of the players McClung doubled was Kevin MacPhee. MacPhee will enter the final table with 1.115 million in chips and has a shot at becoming the first-ever two-time EPT champion. Back in 2010, MacPhee won EPT Berlin, which has also been referred to as EPT Gunfest due to the armed robbery attempt on the tournament.
With 14 other players falling short of this final table besides Lodden and McClung, we lost a ton of talent. Team Pro Lex Veldhuis hit the rail in 15th place, former EPT champion Mike McDonald went out in 18th and 2011 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox fell in 23rd.

Well, everyone was hoping for a short night, but this is not the way they'd hoped to have it end.
Before the flop, Johnny Lodden got himself all in and racing against big stack Daniel Neilson. It was Lodden with the and Neilson with the , and there was a huge pot up for grabs to the man who could run the fastest.
It would turn out to be Neilson. The flop was a swing and a miss for the Team PokerStars Pro, and he was shaking his head and getting a bit more frowny as the landed on the turn. Lodden looked off into the distance as he wished for his card, but it never came. The river filled out the board, and Neilson's queens hold strong to earn the knockout.
With it comes the bounty of the last remaining Team PokerStars Pro, and the gregarious Norwegian will have to settle for a €45,000 consolation prize this week.

Our final nine have recombined around the TV table. We'll play on for one more knockout to set up tomorrow's final table. Cards are back in the air with about 35 minutes left in the level.
From under the gun, Patrick Gastaldi raised to 150,000. Yorane Kerignard reraised to 310,000 from the cutoff seat. On the last hand, Kerignard three-bet Dimitar Danchev's under-the-gun open. Action folded back to Gastaldi and he reraised all in. Kerignard quickly called.
Kerignard tabled the and was flipped with the for Gastaldi. The two looked be to bearly dead even in chips.
The flop came down and the nines held for Kerignard. The turn was the and then the river landed with the . Gastaldi had missed and was eliminated in 10th place for €45,000.
The remaining nine players are now redrawing down to one table.

Andrey Pateychuk opened the pot with a raise, and Angelo Tarallo three-bet shoved for 405,000 total. When it came back to Pateychuk, he decided he had plenty of chips to make the call, and he did so with . Tarallo was working with , and he was in front but only by a small margin, and he was the one on the hook for all his chips.
The flop was an unkind one for the at-risk player, but the on the turn gave him a shot. Now he had eight outs instead of six, but it still wasn't enough. The filled out the board, and that's the end of the line for Tarallo.
Italy now rests its hopes in Rocco Palumbo who's left along carrying the torch for the host nation.
