Day 1a Completed
Flight A of the RunGood Poker Series Bossier City $100,000 Guaranteed Main Event saw a whopping 135 entries take their shot at the first opportunity to advance in this multi-flight tournament. The field played 12 30-minute levels and saw its total shrink down to just 26 when play concluded. Of those 26, Matt Stroud was the one atop the leader board when chips went into bags, ending the day with a sizeable stack of 288,000.
Stroud was seen consistently growing his stack throughout the evening. He won a few big pots around the midway point of the night to get over 100,000 in chips and never looked back from there, building to 200,000 at the beginning of the final level of the night. He then won a pot with pocket queens to knock out another player and reach nearly a quarter-million, which grew from there to its final total of 288,000 by the time play finished.
Next in the counts is Suzan Samuels (236,000), who was the only other player to bag north of 200,000 in chips. Samuels was another player who built a big stack early and used it to her advantage, continuing to amass chips throughout the evening without much resistance. Christopher Shaw (184,000), Everett Register (171,500), and Brock Croft (147,500) round out the top five in chips.
Other players to advance include Pej Niyati (121,500), RunGood Ambassador Preston McEwen (104,500), and brothers Tim Gilliam (94,300) and Brandon Gilliam (68,500).
A few players who weren’t as fortunate to advance included Ray Henson, Daniel Lowery, and Schuyler Thornton. Some or all of them and more are expected to be seen for Flights B and C, which take place Satuday at noon and 7 p.m., respectively.
Flights B and C are the last two chances to advance to Sunday’s Day 2, where all to advance from the three initial flights will combine under one roof to play down to a winner. PokerNews will be on hand from start to finish providing updates every step of the way, so be sure to come back and stay in the loop as the action unfolds.
Play has concluded for Flight A and all players have bagged and tagged their chips. Official chip counts have been provided and a recap of the day's action is soon to follow.

"Yum yum!" said a player as he went all in from under the gun for 77,000 on the penultimate hand of the evening. Everett Register was happy to get it in from middle position with a covering stack.
All-In Player:
Everett Register:
The board ran out in Register's favor, coming to score the knockout and take him in a short timespan from being one of the shorter stacks in the room to one of the larger ones shortly before chips find bags for a 33-hour hiatus.

"All right dealers, finish the hand you're on and deal four more hands,"
The tournament director has spoken and play will conclude for the evening after four more unique hands have been played on the three tables left in play.
Everett "Bib" Register opened to 7,000 from early position and was called by the cutoff. Matthew Register then three-bet all in from the button and Bibb called. The cutoff then thought for a bit and folded.

The board ran out in Bib's favor, coming to fill him up with a wheel and score the double.
"Lucky!" said the cutoff after the hand.
"Somebody's got to be!" Bib said as he raked in the pot.

A player in early position raised to 15,000 and was called by Tim Gilliam on his direct left from middle position. Matt Stroud then three-bet to 40,000 from the hijack and action folded around to the original opener, who four-bet all in. Gilliam thought for a bit and then folded, resulting in a quick call from Stroud.
All-In Player:
Matt Stroud:
Gilliam appeared to have flashed his cards before folding them with what looked like the visible, prompting Stroud to ask him what he folded as he made the call. Gilliam said he folded .
Much to Stroud's delight, he had faded the coin flip and was now firmly ahead of his opponent, poised for the knockout and the pot to go along with it. The flop came , getting a response from Gilliam along the way. The turn fell and the river came behind it to complete the runout, leaving Stroud's queens best at showdown to bring him near a quarter-million a few minutes later once his chips were all stacked.
