The penultimate starting day of the 2024 The Hendon Mob Challenge Cape Town Million surpassed the attendance of the opening flight with a total of 97 entries to bring the field size up to 180 entries while surpassing the ZAR 1,000,000 guarantee before the late registration had closed. Once the final river card was dealt, another 13 players advanced to the money stages and the bubble burst in cruel fashion at the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jaco Mouton applied maximum pressure preflop with six-four and jammed them into the pocket aces of Werner Smit only to flop two pair and turn a full house. Smit's misfortune propelled Mouton to a mighty stack of 558,000, the far biggest for Day 1b. All but one of the 13 survivors hail from South Africa with Renier Britz (371,000) following next, Saint-Pierre resident Didier Mery (330,000) occupied the final spot on the podium.

Among the notables to advance from Day 1b were also Gregory Maistry, Jaryd Jardien, as well as Rajeev Poonhath.

Alongside the second flight of The Hendon Mob Challenge, the ZAR 75,000 Super High Roller ($4,130) determined a winner as well. Only nine players out of a field of 47 entries returned to their seats on the live stream feature table with the ZAR 2,961,000 ($163,861) prize pool up for grabs with the top five spots paid.

Joey Weissman held the lead and reached the money as well, the bubble burst with the elimination of Panayiotis Giannakopoulos. First to call in the money was Remy Murcia. His buddy Mario Fata then jumped into the Single Day High Roller along with Murcia and Fata defeated the UK's Max Deveson heads-up to clinch a trophy late in the evening, while Ahmed Karrim finished in third.

Rayhaan Adam bowed out next followed by Weissman, which set up the heads-up duel between Giovanni Zanette and Dylan Wilkerson.

It came down to a classic flip with Zanette three-bet jamming KJ and Wilkerson calling 88. The 108573 board gave Wilkerson the winning flush and he earned the biggest slice of the pie.

With three tournaments already wrapped up for the day, the third and final starting day of THMC Cape Town Million continued to grow in the late evening and surpassed 100 entries. One year ago, the very same tournament in South Africa had attracted a field of 210 entries but that figure has certainly be shattered this time.

During today's proceedings, Roland Boothby of The Hendon Mob also announced that the event will return to Cape Town in 2025 with a larger guarantee and declared a bounty on his head in the Day 1c flight. The special prize for his elimination was an entry to the third edition and it was claimed well before the end of the registration period of the evening heat.

Day 1c Continues to Grow

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

With Day 1b having wrapped up, the last chance for players to jump into The Hendon Mob Challenge Cape Town Million is Day 1c, which has entered level nine with the late registration still open. Some 90 entries so far put it on the verge of becoming the strongest of the three flights and around 60 players remain in contention.

Smit Bubbles Against Mouton in Cruel Fashion

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Werner Smit
Werner Smit

Werner Smit raised to 25,000 from under the gun and the action folded to Jaco Mouton on the small blind. Mouton declared all-in and Smit quickly called for around 250,000, 25 big blinds at this stage. They waited for the other table to finish and the showdown then unfolded.

Werner Smit: AA All in
Jaco Mouton: 64

The Q64 flop gave Mouton two pair and he made that a full house with the 4 turn. Smit failed to catch one of his two outs as the 8 river sent him to the rail on the Day 1b bubble.

After the hand, the other players at the table told Mouton that he was not on the button as he thought, and had three-bet jammed into an open raise. File that one as a sucker punch bubble story!

Three All-In But No Call Yet

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Alan Jung got a shove through for around 11 blinds in the new level and BC Van Rooyen did so from under the gun, as Gregory Maistry forfeited the big blind.

Didier Mery then raised the button to 26,000 and Maistry shoved for 106,000. It folded back to Mery, who asked for a count and let go, too.

Two of the shorter stacks on table ten got their chips into the middle preflop with Werner Smit and Stephen Courtney involved.

Werner Smit: AQ

The kicker played on the 1093610 board and the chips were counted. Smit had 124,000 and Courtney was covered by a single T-1,000 chip to bust two spots away from the money on Day 1b. After the current hand, the action will continue on the bubble.

Charter Eliminated by Jardien

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Anthony Charter
Anthony Charter

Last man standing - or sitting in this case - for The Hendon Mob team was Anthony Charter on a shorter stack. He got it in preflop from the hijack and Jaryd Jardien did so on the button. They bumped fists prior to the classic flip.

Anthony Charter: AQ All in
Jaryd Jardien: JJ

The J53 flop had Charter on the ropes but the 10 turn provided a lifeline. However, the 3 river only improved Jardien to jacks full and brought the field to the last 15 contenders.
