As expected, the $10,000 Deuce-to-Seven Draw Lowball Championship (No-Limit) attracted a star-studded field as poker's elite came out to compete for what has come to be regarded as one of the more prestigious bracelets among the preliminary events.

A total of 101 came out for today's event, making for a prize pool of $949,400. Among the greats making up today's field were Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Jeffrey Lisandro, Erik Seidel, Carlos Mortensen, Doyle Brunson, Huck Seed, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Mike Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, Greg Mueller, Tom Schneider, and Billy Baxter. And that's just limiting ourselves to those holding multiple WSOP bracelets!

The first four levels featured those "add-on" chips, meaning we saw only a couple of eliminations before the dinner break. We saw a few more hit the rail as the night came to a close, including Chan, Ivey, and Lederer.

Tommy Vedes held the chip lead during the last couple of levels tonight, only to be overtaken by Homan Houshiar at the very end. Houshiar bagged 116,100 chips once play concluded, and will be at the top of the leaderboard when the 72 remaining players return tomorrow.

We just came on the tail end of a big hand over on Table 303 in which both Justin "Boosted J" Smith and Dario Alioto were eliminated.

Black Is Back

Andy Black opened with a raise from the button, the big blind made it 6,000 to go, then Black reraised all in for 27,200. His opponent called.

Both stood pat, Black showed {8-} {7-} {5-} {4-} {3-} , and his opponent mucked. Black is up to 58,000.

J.C. Tran was unable to nurse that short stack much longer, and has just been eliminated. So has Phil Tom.

About halfway through our last level of the night, we are now down to 78 players left from our original field of 101.

Bald Eagle Doubles His Wingspan

From middle position, Erik Seidel raised to 1,700. Steve Zolotow called from the cutoff seat and then Dan O'Brien reraised from the big blind to 7,800. Seidel got out of the way and then Zolotow called.

O'Brien tapped the table, signifying that he was standing pat while Zolotow drew one. After the draw, O'Brien moved all in and Zolotow called. O'Brien showed an {8-} {7-} {6-} {5-} {2-} , but was beat by Zolotow's {8-} {6-} {5-} {4-} {2-} .

Zolotow doubled to just about 56,000 while O'Brien was knocked down to 38,000.

You Look Familiar

It's getting late here in the Rio. After 2 a.m. And "Poker After Dark" is playing silently on a big screen television just off to the side of our event.

In fact, three of the players in currently in this event -- Tom Dwan, Doyle Brunson, and Eli Elezra -- also appear in tonight's episode of "PAD."

At Elezra's table, play nearly ground to a halt as players became engaged in watching a hand between Elezra and Dwan play out on the screen. In the hand, Dwan succeeded in bluffing Elezra out with a bold river bet, eliciting a round laughter from Elezra's current tablemates.
