Day 2 of Event #53: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship is officially over with just 14 players left in contention. The day began with 140 ladies - and one man - returning to chase the money bubble. The action was fast and furious as players were eliminated until Wendy Cordiner claimed the title of "Bubble Girl" within the first hour of play. Even so, a large majority of the ladies left in the event were gracious enough to donate $10 to Cordiner as a consolation prize - something surely only seen in a Ladies Event.
Among those who busted during Day 2 include Jennifer Cox, Melanie Banfield, Alexandra Petitjean, Celine Bastian, Erica Schoenberg, Gretchen "Dragon Lady" Brummer and our Day 1 chip leader Ruby Du.
Valerie McColligan is our chip leader going into our third and final day with 482,000. She is closely followed by Katherine Stahl (352,000), Amanda Baker (326,000) and Peg Ledman (326,000). All eyes will also be on Jonathan Epstein (216,000), who is the last of the men who entered left standing.

Marina Kolbeshkina eliminated in similar fashion to Yu Kurita, having been crippled then finished off a few hands later.
In the first hand, Kolbeshkina moved all in from early position and was called by Jennifer Cowan, who was all in for less.

, which looked very promising for Kolbeshkina. However, as a reminder of how cruel poker can be, the turn and river came the 
respectively, giving Cowan the runner-runner straight and knocked Kolbeshkina down to just 10,000.
A couple hands later, Kolbeshkina went all in blind and was called by Amanda Baker from the small and Karen Fisher checked her option from the big.
The flop came 
and both players checked. However, Baker fired out 18,000 on the 
turn.
"Really?" Fisher said as she made the call.

and Baker pushed all in. Fisher shook her head and mucked.
Baker revealed the

The tournament supervisor has instructed the dealers to deal four more hands on each table, after which, play will end for the night.
Jennifer Cowan had been nursing a very short stack throughout the final stanza of play, but she's just scored some chips through Karen Fisher to move up to 110,000.
The action folded to Fisher who raised to 30,000 from the cutoff before Cowan insta-shoved from the big blind for 56,000. Fisher called, showing down 
but needed some assistance from the poker gods after Cowan revealed 
.
And lo, the poker gods did not hear her prayers, as the board ran out 
to give Cowan the double-up.

Katherine Stahl opened to her usual 35,000 from middle position and found one caller in Amanda Baker from the cutoff.
Both players checked the 
flop. When the fell on the turn, Stahl check-called a 42,00 bet from Baker. The 
came on the river and Stahl checked once more, prompting a hefty 78,000 bet from Baker. Stahl fell hard into the tank until the clock was called on her. She took the entire minute, but made the call and saw the bad news.

The action folded to Jonathan Epstein who raised to 22,000 from the button before the flop; Marsha Wolak shoved from the small blind and Karina Jett iso-shoved from the big blind. Epstein thought about it for quite a while, but then folded his hand before Wolak and Jett went to showdown:

to take the lead and nothing changed when the turn came the , but Karina still had some hope with the straight outs. Unfortunately, the river gave Wolak the straight instead and she doubled up, leaving Jett with less than 120,000.

As they might say in Australia, there has been bugger-all action as the remaining 15 players in the $1,000 Ladies Event duke it out, with this being the only flop we've seen in over 10 minutes.
The action folded around to Valerie McColligan who raised to 25,000 from the small blind before the flop; Amanda Sizemore called from the big blind, then McColligan bet out 32,000 after the dealer spread the flop of [T9s5h].
"Can I see another card?" Sizemore jokingly asked the dealer before throwing her hand away.

Katherine Stahl opened to 35,000 from the cutoff and Amanda Baker announced, "All in," which was enough to put Stahl's tournament life at risk. Stahl fell deep into the tank. After about four minutes, the clock was called on her and a tournament director advised her that her hand would be dead after one minute. Stahl announced, "Call," about half way through the count.
