Day 1 Completed

Moulder Continues His Hot Summer as he Bags the Chip Lead in Event #77: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet

Level 11
Patrick Moulder

After nine hours of play and 11 levels, Day 1 of Event #77: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet is in the books at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Leading the way is Patrick Moulder with 388,500. In second place is Joshua Adcock with 312,500 and Argentina’s Andres Korn rounds out the podium with 295,000.

A total of 388 entrants entered throughout the day, with 122 having found a bag. Registration remains open through the end of Level 12 at 2 p.m. Tuesday, so how many total runners will enter is yet to be seen. There are also two reentries allowed, so last year’s total of 377 has already been surpassed and should be blown out of the water.

The Mixed Big Bet tournament combines seven different no-limit and pot-limit poker variants. It creates an interesting combination of mixed-game regulars and several big-bet specialists battling it out in a contrast of styles. The games' big-bet nature means that big pots ensued from the very first shuffle, something that the mixed-game crowd is unaccustomed to.

Two games that are rarely played outside of this tournament are 5-Card Draw and Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw. While the former tends to play tighter and smaller, the latter created several massive pots throughout the day.

The Day’s Action

Early in the day, Paul Tedeschi made a royal flush in a hand of Big O. It was a small pot but Tedeschi found value on the river by check-raising against his opponent’s full house.

Joshua Adcock built a stack early in the day and continued his momentum through the end as he bagged 312,500. In Level 5, he won a sizable pot against Renan Bruschi in a hand of Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw. Adcock drew three from the small blind and made an eight-seven to send Bruschi to the reentry cage.

The same game was responsible for another large pot between Warwick Mirzikinian and Mike Watson. Mirzikinian check-called from the cutoff after the second draw after both players drew one. On the final draw, Mirzikinian stood pat while Watson took one from the button. Mirzikinian then potted his ten-eight to put Watson at risk. However, Watson made an eight-seven to find a huge double.

Later in the day, Kyle Miholich hit a five-outer on the river in a hand of Pot-Limit Omaha against 2023 Main Event Champion Daniel Weinman. Miholich was dressed in a Ron Burgandy outfit and provided entertainment throughout the day on his way to a bag of 44,500.

In another hand of Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw, Andres Korn made #11 on the second draw in a massive pot against Michael Moncek. Moncek was drawing to 7x6x3x2x on the final draw, but he made a ten to send a 300,000-chip pot in Korn’s direction.

Some notable players found a bag for Day 2, including 17-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, 2013 Main Event champion Ryan Riess, and recent four-time bracelet winner Phillip Hui.

Some who were not so fortunate but retain the opportunity to late register include Mike Matusow, David Williams, and defending champion Julio Belluscio.

While the total prize pool has not yet been confirmed, the number of entries has already surpassed the total from last year, so the remaining players and new entrants will have plenty to play for over the next two days.

The remaining players return at 1 p.m. on July 2 at the Horseshoe Event Center. Play will resume in Level 12.

Be sure to stay with the PokerNews team as we provide updates through the entirety of Event #77: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet and all bracelet events at the 2024 World Series of Poker.

Boeken Finds Value with Flush on Double Paired Board

Level 11

Pot-Limit Omaha

Action was picked up on the turn in a pot between Roland Israelashvili in the big blind and Noah Boeken from the cutoff.

On the Q77Q board, Israelashvili led for pot of 41,600 and Boeken called.

The river brought the 8. Israelashvili checked to Boeken who bet 50,000. Israelashvili went into the tank with just 54,000 behind, and he eventually tossed in the call.

Boeken revealed A1075 for the nut flush which was good to drag a massive pot toward the end of the night.

Israelashvili was eliminated a few hands later.
