Event #90: $1,500 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha
Day 1 Completed
Today, the continuation of the 2024 World Series of Poker saw the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas play host to Event #90: $1,500 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. This three-day event drew in a massive 1,304 entrants, generating a mammoth prize pool of $1,740,840. Tomorrow, the surviving 89 players will continue their race towards the first-place prize of $269,530 and the coveted gold WSOP bracelet.
Of the remaining field, David Shaw solidified himself as the largest stack in the room, having bagged and tagged a considerable sum of 1,028,000 by the conclusion of Level 17.
Although Shaw eclipsed the one million chip mark, he isn’t alone at the top with fellow big stacks Billy Tarango, Zachary Reinbold and Long Tran tailing behind with counts of 983,000, 969,000 and 962,000, respectively.
Other notable names to bag included Ludovic Geilich, David Docherty, Jessica Teusl and Jesse Yaginuma. In addition, the $25k Fantasy Draft had a strong showing with John Racener, Chris Hunichen, Brad Ruben and John Riordan all advancing to Day 2.

A total of 196 players made the money, securing a minimum cash of $3,007. It was Level 14 that saw an unconventional bursting of the bubble. With the tournament clock paused and the floor verifying the number of remaining players, David Docherty at Table 59 had already burst the bubble. At showdown, Docherty turned a gutshot straight draw to crack the top set of his opponent, ensuring the remaining field were now all in the money without having to endure the tedious process of hand-for-hand play.
Another notable bust was that of Chino Rheem. Throughout the day, Rheem used his aggressive style to win pot after pot, solidifying himself as one of the biggest stacks in the room. However, the strong swings of pot-limit Omaha saw his mountain of chips evaporate into an early exit at the tail end of Level 12.
Those to surpass Rheem and secure a new WSOP cash on their poker resumes but ultimately still joining him on the rail included Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu was quick to let PokerNews know that he meant business as he took to the felt today, however, his exit on Level 15 was a slightly quieter affair.
Day 2 will commence tomorrow, July 12, at 12 p.m. local time. Proceedings will start on Level 18 with blinds at 5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante. Players will endure ten one-hour-long levels until play concludes before Day 3 on July 13.
Keep it locked in with PokerNews to make sure you don’t miss a single moment of the action here at the 2024 World Series of Poker.
Play has ended on Day 1 of Event #90: $1,500 PLO 6-Max, and the 89 remaining players have bagged up to return tomorrow for Day 2 at noon. Here are the end-of-day chip counts.

The clock has been paused and the tournament floor has announced two more hands will be played to conclude this day one flight.
The pot stood at 62,000, with two players looking at a flop of 5♦K♣3♥.
Tsugunari Toma, in the big blind, check-called a pot-sized bet of 62,000 from the player under the gun.
The 8♠ turn saw Toma play out of flow, leading with a bet large enough to put his opponent all in. Toma's opponent called.
Under the Gun: A♠A♣10♦5♠
Tsugunari Toma: K♦9♦8♣2♠
The 9♠ river saw Toma's two pair crack his opponent's aces, sending them to the rail.

On a three-way flop of 5♦4♣6♥, Ludovic Geilich checked, Takashi Ogura bet 27,000 and was called by both opponents.
The turn was the 8♦ and it was checked again to Ogura, who bet the pot, putting himself all in for around 300,000.
The short-stacked player behind him called for his last 45,000 while Geilich eventually folded after some thought.
Opponent: Q♦10♣9♦8♥
Takashi Ogura: A♣Q♠8♠7♣
Ogura was well in the lead with his straight, but his opponent could still hit a flush or higher straight to win.
The river J♥ did neither of those things, and Ogura was shipped the pot while his opponent headed to the payout desk.

Jesse Yaginuma raised to 20,000 from the button and Ludovic Geilich defended in the big blind.
The Q♣J♣9♠ flop checked through to the 3♦ on the turn. Geilich took the lead for 18,000 and Yaginuma called.
The 4♣ river saw Yaginuma fire again, this time for 28,000. Yaginuma went into the tank, finally making the call. Geilich instantly mucked his cards. Yaginuma claimed this pot while also concealing the identity of his holding.
