Event #5: THE COLOSSUS - €550 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1c Completed
Day 1C has come to an end in Event #5: THE COLOSSUS €550 No-Limit Hold'em with 10 players advancing to Day 2. Martin Thiel leads them all with 399,500 chips.
Thiel is a recreational German poker player that has yet to record a live tournament cash. Based on his play today, you would never guess that was the case. Thiel showed pure aggression throughout the day, bluffing opponents off pots and turning up with the goods when it mattered. There were multiple instances when Thiel won an all-in and you could hear him cheering across the room with a fist pump to go with it.
The day started with around 50 entries but quickly escalated to over 100 within the first level. By the end of late registration, there were a total of 196 entries to enter the field. After nearly 17 levels, the day came to a halt when Vladas Burneikis was eliminated.
Aleksandar Tomovic was left with around 12,000 after he won an all-in on the last hand of the night. He chose to surrender his stack and become the 11th place finisher. Ting Ho is one of the most notable names to find on the leaderboard after Day 1C. She was forced to re-enter early in the day but made excellent use of her second bullet by quickly running up a stack. She held on towards the end of the night to advance to Day 2.
Many familiar faces came and went on Day 1C, unable to get anything going their way. Chris Ferguson was looking to keep pace in the Player of the Year race but buster his first bullet on the last hand of level 8. Kristen Bicknell and Roberto Romanello were a couple of the late entries but they didn't last long with their short stacks. Michael Magalashvili ran into aces twice to bust both of his entries and Ivo Donev struggled on the short stack through the early periods.
It was not all bad news for the notables though, as Kevin MacPhee (30th Place - €796), Roland Israelashvili (25th Place - €895), Stefan Vogt (19th Place - €895), Sander van Wesemael (15th Place - €1,218 ), and Aleksandar Tomovic (11th Place - €1,478) all found the money.
Meanwhile, Day 1D has fired up on the other side of the tournament floor and there are many notables taking a seat in that flight. You can follow all of the PokerNews coverage throughout the entire event.
