Day 1e of Event #9: 750K GTD NLH has reached the light at the end of the tunnel and ended after 9 hours of play. The second flight attracted 286 entries, which played down to just 34 players (12%) at the end of the night.

Bagging up at the top of the heap was Christopher Nabors who finished with 618,000 and surged to the top of the counts late in the day based mainly on a key hand where he hit a set of deuces and got max value as he finished as the only player to go over 500,000.

In second place at the end of the day was Jonathon Castellanos with 495,000 and right behind him in third was Thanh Bui with 471,000.

Well-known WSOP bracelet winner James Calderaro finished the day as one of the big stacks as he hauled in 429,000 into his bad which was good enough for fourth place in the counts. Sung Kim rounded out the top five stacks as he finished with 417,000.

This flight attracted the largest amount of entries yet with 286 as news of the overlay went across the poker world and attracted several out of state regular players who made their Lone Star Championship Series debut today in Day 1e.

In addition to Calderaro, two others who fit that description found a bag to advance to day two. Adam Hendrix made an appearance and finished with a sizeable stack of 254,000 and John Gallaher also showed up specifically to play this event and he bagged 163,000.

The night ended with a double elimination on the bubble during hand for hand play as two players on different tables were sent away to put the final number of players at 34 rather than the initially planned 35.

The 34 players will move on to Day 2, on Wednesday and join all the other advancing players from all flights.

PokerNews will continue with coverage of Day 2 tomorrow as well as other events here in the Lodge Championship Series

Full chip counts and recap to follow shortly.

Levin and Brunette Both Bite the Dust on the Bubble

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

On the first hand of hand for hand play there were two all ins, the floor waited for play to end everywhere else and the first all in was run.

Kenneth Brunette: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Alexis Meyer: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Brunette was at risk and ran into the needles. The board ran out {3-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and the bubble was official burst.

The other all in was then run out:

Robert Levin: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Darren Rabinowitz: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board: {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades} and Levin was also eliminated on the bubble for no money.

Last Break of the Night

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

The field has reached 36 right before the break, meaning that when players return from break play will be hand for hand to squeeze out the last elimination of the night.

Ducks Give Nabors a Huge Pot

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Christopher Nabors

Action was picked up on the flop reading {7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Christopher Nabors made a large bet of 120,000 from under the gun. Michael Rudolph called from the big blind.

The turn was the {5-Clubs}. Rudolph checked and Nabors took a long time and counted out his stack before announcing all in for about 115,000.

"As much as I would like to, I don't think I can get away from this" said Rudolph and called.

Nabors tabled the {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a set while Rudolph had the {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} drawing to hearts and the wheel. The river was the {a-Diamonds} to keep Nabors as the winner and he took down the big pot.

Nguyen Doubles Near Bubble

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Jay Nguyen was all in preflop with the {a-}{k-} well ahead of the {k-}{j-} of Fausto Saucedo. But it was a big sweat for him regardless with the field being only two away from the money.

The board ran out harmlessly for Nguyen as it came {9-}{k-}{4-}{8-}{j-} to survive.
