Day 3 Completed

Day 3 Ends With Cajelais On Top

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Erik Cajelais
Erik Cajelais

Fifty-three players started Day 3 but only 18 of them remain in the World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Class Main Event and these are being lead by Canadian pro Erik Cajelais.

Cajelais is one of only two player to end Day 3 with over 1,000,000 chips; the other being Artur Voskanyan. Throughout the day Cajelais played well but he will also be the first to admit that a number of big hands went his way when he needed them to. An example of him running good was when he sent the dangerous Oleksii Kovalchuk to the rail when his {7-Spades}{4-Spades} hit a flush on the river to crack his Ukrainian opponent's pocket queens.

Another example was catching another flush, this time after calling a huge over-bet on an {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop with {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and beating the {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} of Mansour Khorramshani. And let us not forget him being on the right side of an aces versus kings scenario too. Poker seems like such an easy game when the cards are on your side.

Although Cajelais and the aforementioned Voskanyan both have over one million chips each, this tournament is far from a conclusion because amongst the final 18 players are some talented individuals indeed. Former WPT Amneville champion Sam El Sayed has 950,000 chips at his disposal, GSOP Grand Final winner Andrey Shatilov (686,000) has shown he knows his way around the poker table whilst Robert Mizrachi (586,000) is a proven winning player. When all is said and done Day 4 should be quite a spectacle.

Day 4 kicks off at precisely 1:00PM EEST and will continue until just the final table of six remain. Ran Azor, who is currently fifth in chips, thinks Day 4 will be completed in less than three levels whilst Robert Mizrachi has set the bar at over 4.5 hours. Whoever is correct will be treated by the other to dinner in a fine Israeli restaurant! Who will be buying the other lunch? Tune into the PokerNews Live Reporting pages tomorrow to find out!

Flawless Victor-y

And with that it's all over, Victor Paraschiv has just won a flip with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} against Senol Sener's {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} to send the Turkish player out in 19th place and end proceedings for the night.

We'll have full chip counts shortly.

Mizrachi And Azor Make A Prop Bet

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Robert Mizrachi and Ran Azor have just made a prop bet on how long Day 4 will last, despite the fact Day 3 is not yet over!

Tomorrow we will go from 18 players down to the final table of six. Azor believes Day 4 will be completed in less than three levels, Mizrachi says more than that. Whoever loses has to buy dinner at a top restaurant in Israel.

Mizrachi joked that if he has to buy dinner then he will take Azor to McDonald's!

Azor Spot For Makarov

There will be no as Alexey Makarov has just been elimianted by Ran Azor.

The Russian raised from the button and called all-in with {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} against Azor's {A-}{10-} but the board came {10-}{8-Diamonds}{2-}{2-Diamonds}{J-} and Makarov was outdrawn and undone.

Just one more player needs to be eliminated then we will be finished for the night.

Ummer's Out Of Here

Per Ummer
Per Ummer

Per Ummer's tournament has come to an abrupt end after an all-in clash with Artur Voskanyan cost him his stack.

Ummer had been short stacked for the majority of the day and even commented as he left the table that he simply had received no playable hands on Day 3.

His demise was complete when he opened to 17,000 from under the gun and then shoved for 120,000 when Artur Voskanyan (on the button) three-bet to 35,000. Voskanyan called and showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} whilst Ummer trailed with {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Ummer caught a ten on the turn of the {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} board but the {8-Hearts} on the river was no help to Ummer and he has been eliminated.

Hey Now, Hey Now, Don't Rheem It's Over

Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

Chino Rheem's WPT dream has disappeared in the space of just two hands.

First he'd moved all in on the river of a {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board against Artur Voskanyan. The latter tanking for nearly ten minutes before making the call with {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} which shocked the table as for how long it took.

Rheem flashed what looked to be {7-}{4-} though this could not be confirmed.

The American was left with 170,000 and he raised all in on the flop of a {10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} board against Gilboa Yossi's {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} - the worst hand he could see given that he was holding {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The {3-Hearts} gave him some miracle outs but the {Q-Hearts} river sent the colourful (or colorful) character to the rail.
