Day 1 action is officially complete. Of the 296 players who started the day, only 110 survived and will returned tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. PDT tomorrow afternoon.
At the top of the heap is Alexander Borteh with 55,500 chips, followed closely by Greg "FBT" Mueller, who, with 54,000 chips, has posted another impressive Day 1 finish.
Join us tomorrow for our continued coverage of Event 34 as we play down to a final table.
Alex Kravchenko raised from middle position and was reraised by Annie Duke from late position; Kravchenko called.
The flop came and Kravchenko checked to Duke who bet out. Kravchenko opted to check-raise Duke and Annie just called.
The turn brought the and the action went check, bet, call. When the fell on the river, the action stayed the same -- Kravchenko checked, Duke bet and Kravchenko called.
At the showdown, Annie flipped over and Alex mucked his hand. Annie now has almost 20,000 chips.
Dutch raised from middle position with and was called by only the big blind. The flop came and Dutch's opponent bet out, which was enough to put Dutch all-in. Pot committed, Dutch called and his opponent showed for top pair, top kicker.
The turn and river came , and Dutch was eliminated from the tournament.
Jerrod Ankenman, who took home $150,586 for his runner-up finish in last year's $3,000 Limit Hold'em event, has just been eliminated from the tournament.
Greg "FBT" Mueller just took down a huge pot against Annie Duke, hitting a set of 9's on the flop against her pocket Jacks. The hand took Mueller past the 35K mark, making him the chip leader for the moment.
We noticed that Greg's name has been at the top of the leaderboard quite a number of times throughout this year's WSOP going into Day 2, so we asked Greg for a number. He told us this would be his 4th tournament as the Day 1 chip leader going into Day 2 -- impressive, considering the big fields we've seen this year.
Greg is fast approaching 40,000 chips and there's a very good possibility he'll be on top at 3:00 a.m., when we close up shop for the evening.
